Where Friends Meet.

Welcome to First Friends Meeting, a Quaker community seeking God, connecting with each other, serving our neighbors, and sharing our resources.

At First Friends, we are friends who are family and family who are friends. We have a rich texture of lifelong friendships and warm welcome for newcomers. We are committed to practicing our Quaker principles of community, peace, integrity, stewardship, equality, and simplicity.

We are a welcome and affirming congregation, we welcomes all persons without distinction regarding race, ethnicity, national origin, class, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other category created by humans.

Join us for worship at 2100 W Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27403.

Who We Are

First Friends Meeting is a welcoming and inclusive Quaker meeting. We are friends who are family and family who are friends. We are committed to the Quaker ideals of peace, equality, simplicity, integrity, and stewardship. And although we are diverse in theological thought, we are committed to being in community together and following Spirit’s leading in all we do.

We know each other best through small groups, and we have diverse offerings such as Bible study, Sunday school, ministry teams at One Step Further, the Night Shelter, and Friends Emergency Material Assistance Program (FEMAP), book clubs, supper clubs, support groups and even an occasional Habitat for Humanity team.

Worship

“In worship we have our neighbors to right and left, before and behind, yet the Eternal Presence is over all and beneath all. Worship does not consist in achieving a mental state of concentrated isolation from one’s fellows. But in the depth of common worship it is as if we found our separate lives were all one life, within whom we live and move and have our being.” - Thomas Kelly, 1941

We gather at 2100 W Friendly Avenue for Unprogrammed Worship at 8:45 a.m. on Sundays, a mostly silent worship service where we face one another in a circle, and Semi-Programmed Worship at 11:00 a.m. In this service you’ll hear heartfelt music, a prepared message (or sermon), and enjoy a short amount of silence.

We often share Pastor Lia’s videos on Facebook.
